Overview of Married to Medicine Reality TV Series on Bravo.

Married to Medicine is a reality TV series which premiered on Bravo in 2013. The series follows a group of seven women in Atlanta who either work in medicine or are married to someone who does. Similar to Bravo’s Real Housewives series, the series follows the women in their professional and personal lives, social circles and family settings.

The series spun off Married to Medicine Houston and a future spin-off is on the way with Married to Medicine Los Angeles.

Married to Medicine is produced by Fremantle Media North America and Purveyors of Pop for Bravo. The series executive producers are Mariah Huq, Matt Anderson and Nate Green.

Critical Response, Ratings and Awards

Overall, the show received very good ratings, hence its continued renewal by Bravo.

However, a group of students from Howard University College of Medicine does not agree with the viewing audience. They created a petition on to prevent the series from airing on Bravo. They feel the series “heavily associates Black females in medicine with materialism, cat fights, and unprofessionalism”. They feel the show will contribute to the difficulties that African-American women have in getting residency positions.
