Series Overview

Thicker Than Water is a reality TV series that ran on Bravo in 2013. The series follows the family of Ben Tankard, a gospel music producer and motivational speaker. The show highlights how the Tankard family uses religion and ministry to create wealth for themselves. In fact, the family believes that God himself wants them to be rich. Bravo previously aired the Thicker Than Water series, but with a different family, the Marinos.

Production Company and Executive Producers

Sirens Media and John Doe Productions produce the Thicker Than Water series. The executive producers are Caroline Self, Darren Toon, Lucilla D’Agostino, Rebecca Toth Diefenbach, Renard Young, and Valerie Haselton Drescher.

Season 1

  • S1 E1 – Family Ties – A young man tries to court Ben’s daughter, Cyrene, to go to the prom. Brooklyn is running a marathon that just happens to be on the same day as the prom. Britney and Brooklyn go out on a double date.
  • S1 E2 – Sibling Biblery – Ben stresses the point that if your last name is Tankard, you have to be a millionaire. Jewel promotes financial independence for women. Then, Brooklyn and Benji get into a fight.
  • S1 E3 – Southern Discomfort – Brooklyn crashes the family car and gets accused of illegal behavior.
  • S1 E4 – Not the Family Standard – First, Jewel plans his parent’s wedding anniversary after Junice screws up. Later, Benji has a surprise for Shanira.
  • S1 E5 – Kandi RocksKandi Buruss visits the Tankard family. Later, Brooklyn struggles with the challenges of being a working mom.
  • S1 E6 – The New F-Word: Forgiveness – Ben and Jewel are starting to worry about Brooklyn’s drinking. Next, Benji’s wedding plans may be too expensive. Then, only one sister is chosen to be a bridesmaid, creating tension and drama among the others.
  • S1 E7 – Sisters of No Mercy – In this episode, Brooklyn prepares for her next hair show. Meanwhile, Junice decides to get the family together for a little therapy session.
  • S1 E8 – Wedding Bells & Farewells – In the final episode of the first season, Benji and Shanira finally get married. Brooklyn makes an unplanned speech

Season 2

There are a total of nine episodes in the second season of Thicker Than Water.

  • S2 E1 – Act Like a Sister – In the first episode of the second season, the family has a party to celebrate Cyrene’s high school graduation. However, Junice decides not to attend. Marcus and his wife Tish move back in with the family. During the off-season, Britney lost 30 pounds through a strict diet and exercise. Now, she tries to be a positive influence on the religious family. Later, the Tankards decide to visit Jewel’s sister Junetta in Baltimore. Unfortunately, the visit doesn’t get off to a good start.
  • S2 E2 – Pregnant Pause – The family starts planning a party to celebrate Marcus’s 30th birthday. But, when the party comes around, certain things fall apart. Later, Cyrene worries that the family might scare away her new boyfriend. Then, Tish has a huge surprise for Marcus.
  • S2 E3 – Making Amens – Marcus and Tish start planning their life as new parents. Then, Ben and Jewell try to convince them to live in Murfreesboro. Last, Britney talks to Cyrene about her problem with Marcus.
  • S2 E4 – Daddy Issues – Britney has a serious talk with Marcus. Then, Marcus reveals the pain he experienced when Ben was absent from his childhood. Later, Benji and Shanira try to get a family loan for a new condo.
  • S2 E5 – Lock It Up – First, Jewel’s attempt to redecorate goes awry. Later, Ben heads out on a guy’s trip with the boys. Then, special guest Phaedra Parks of RHOA visits Cyrene.
